1998 E320 · OBSIDIAN BLACK/BLACK LEATHER
Absolutely stunning! Low miles! Must see in person!

LOWERED PRICE BY $5,000...MUST GO!

Hello and thank you for taking the time to view my ad. First of all, this is my personal car (I am not a dealer). This car has been very good to me and it's going to hurt to see her go. I hope that she finds a new owner that loves and cares for her as much as I have. This has been the most reliable and solid automobile that I have ever had the privilege of owning (previous: Acura, Porsche, Lexus). I'm selling her to help fund the cost of upcoming home improvements.

The facts: This car is beautiful inside and out and the paint absolutely sparkles. NO DOOR DINGS OR SCRATCHES! Obsidian black is different from plain black--the light shimmer that the tiny metal flakes give off is truly a sight to behold. I receive regular comments on how stunning this car looks in the light. It is quite remarkable! The interior has never been smoked in, nor has had any type of air freshener placed inside of it. All you smell is fine, Mercedes leather (which, by the way, is like BRAND NEW). I've only used the passenger seat once or twice. No stains or marks on the carpets, factory mats are like new as well. This vehicle is a low-mileage example, as the odometer just turned 60,000 last week.

As you can see, I've changed a couple of things on the car. For the most part, it's factory stock--I have NOT done any engine modifications to the car. I've only changed a few things that I felt was a CLASSY move upward. I'm very particular with my cars, and they have to exude class and style without looking "immature" or "cheap".  I have had adults in their mid-40s and early 50s comment on how classy this car looks, so that should be a testament to my style and taste. I'm 36 years old, by the way, and I'm an IT executive for a local financial institution here on Oahu.

What I have done is replaced the factory 17" chrome wheels (which I still have and come with the car) with 19" Brabus Monoblock V Multipiece wheels. They retail for $1,250 PER wheel! The wheels are in MINT condition, not a mark on them--no curb marks whatsoever. The front wheels are 8.5" wide, the rears 9.5". The Bridgestone Pole Position S-03 tires are relatively new as well, with about 80% tread remaining. Brabus (www.brabus.com) is the largest German tuning company for Mercedes Benz--their parts are highly sought-after and are highly regarded as "best of class" products. I believe that this is the only set of wheels like this in the state. I paid over $6,500 for this setup.

To give the car a slightly more aggressive stance, I opted for H&R Sport Suspension kit (#1 brand in Germany) and mated them with brand new Bilstein Sport shocks front and rear. This adds a whole new dimension to the vehicle--it handles like a dream! Tight enough on corners, yet extremely comfortable and smooth on the straights. I feel that this was the single best investment that I made on this E. The wheels do not scrape the fenders, nor does the front end hit speed bumps (it lowers the vehicle only 1.2").  It's the way the sport E should have been from the factory. That cost $1,500 for parts and installation. I do have the factory springs and shocks, and that comes with the car as well.

I've installed a Brabus burl wood/aluminum shift knob and Brabus door lock pins ($500). I have all the factory items packaged nicely in boxes that you may have should you decide to put it back to stock. All added items are simple add-ons, and NO modifications have been done to the car to prevent it from easily being returned to stock. As a matter of fact, I could put the entire car back to stock in only a couple of hours. I NEVER drilled, cut or modified the stock body or interior in any way, shape or form! NO, NO, NO!

The car has only 52,900 miles on it, which is average for this year. It was in California for the first few years of its life, so most of the miles are highway miles. As you may know, these E320 engines are world-renowned for it's integrity and durability. At 50K miles, it's merely been broken in! The engine has never given me any sort of trouble--absolutely solid, strong performance. It never misses a beat--starts quickly, runs smoothly, idles perfectly. No surprises here. Never had any electrical problems neither. Just a solid, reliable performer.

What else: Alarm system, ice cold A/C (original freon--never leaked), auto 5-speed trans, special Benz infrared key, remote entry and window/sunroof roll-up or roll-down via key remote (factory). Factory 6-Disk CD changer is like brand new, works perfectly as expected. This Bose stereo is probably the best stock stereo I have ever had the joy of listening to in a factory configuration...the bass is superb and the highs silky smooth. I was surprised, really. The spare tire has never been used. All tools are present. I have the factory manual as well. The windows are perfectly tinted by the best local tint shop, Protint (I use them exclusively--they are the best, hands down).

I wash the car by hand using only the best products once or twice a week and dry it properly (all crevices blown dry, then blotted dry). I wash both sides of the wheels every time, and the engine and door, hood and trunk jambs are all wiped down every wash--NO water spots, not even in the door jambs! Like I said, I this is my baby. Come by and see her for yourself--you'll be pleasantly surprised!

My ad in the paper states that I'm asking $31,500 for this meticulously maintained E-Class, however, I've lowered my asking price to $26,500. I feel, and many will agree, that it's quite possibly the nicest example of an E-Class anywhere in the state. Please call me, Keoni, at (808) 779-5995 to schedule a viewing. Or, please email me and I'll get right back to you. Thanks again for taking the time to view my ad!

Aloha,
Keoni Ahlo

About the E-Class

Mercedes-Benz introduced an all-new E-Class for 1996, sporting a distinctive countenance, larger dimensions, door-mounted side-impact airbags and more standard equipment. Styling follows familiar Mercedes themes, but the front end of the E-Class is quite a departure from previous Benz models. Round headlamps, available with new gas-discharge technology, contain low beams as well as parking lights and turn signals. Smaller inner lights serve as high beams. Fog lamps are integrated into the bumper covers. The result is a crisp retro look that gives the E-Class a large dose of personality and presence.

Occupants are treated to a automatic climate control system that can be set for driver and passenger comfort, and filters dust, pollen and odors from the air. The usual burl walnut trim covers the instrument panel, and E320 models come with standard leather seating. A three-position memory feature is standard on all models, and it positions the driver's seat, steering wheel, headrests and side-view mirrors for up to three different drivers. Cup holders are provided front and rear.

The E-Class is equipped with improved antilock brakes, new standard traction control systems, child-safety locks on the rear doors, dual airbags and new inflatable restraints in the doors. Electronic Stability Program (ESP) helps drivers keep the car under control in hazardous conditions. An infrared remote security system is standard.

Engine & Drivetrain

Engine 3,199-cc SOHC 18-valve V-6, high-pressure die-cast alloy cylinder block, alloy heads.

Net power 221 hp @ 5,600 rpm

Net torque 232 lb-ft @ 3,000-4,800 rpm

Compression ratio 10.0:1

Fuel requirement Premium unleaded gasoline, 91 pump octane.

Fuel and ignition system ME 2.0 sequential multipoint fuel injection and phased twin-spark ignition with individual cylinder control of spark timing and phase, fuel spray and antiknock control. Two high-energy ignition coils and two spark plugs per cylinder, 100,000-mile spark plug intervals. Electronic throttle.

Intake system Magnesium 2-stage resonance intake manifold increases intake runner length at lower rpm for improved response.

Transmission Driver-adaptive electronic 5-speed automatic. Driver-selectable winter mode starts vehicle moving in 2nd gear or a special second reverse gear to help improve take-off on slippery surfaces.

Rear axle ratio 3.07:1

Traction Control & Stability Systems

Automatic Slip Control (ASR) Standard. ASR traction control drive-wheel slip and individually applies the brakes to the slipping wheel and/or reduces excess engine power until control is regained.

Electronic Stability Program (ESP) Optional. ESP compares the driver's intended course, via steering and braking inputs, to the vehicle's response, via lateral acceleration, rotation (yaw) and individual wheel speeds. ESP then brakes individual front or rear wheels and/or reduces excess engine power as needed to help correct understeer (plowing) or oversteer (fishtailing).

All-wheel drive(AWD)* Optional (replaces ASR). AWD features a permanent 35/65 front/rear torque split via a planetary center differential. 4-ETS monitors speed of all four wheels to detect wheel slip, then applies individual brakes as needed to provide the effect of locking the front, rear and/or center differentials. 4-ETS continually balances the torque split to ensure that power is sent to the wheel or wheels with traction.

All-wheel drive with ESP Optional (incorporates 4-wheel ASR)

*This vehicle does NOT have the AWD system.

Chassis

Front suspension Independent double wishbone with antidive geometry and stabilizer bar. Separate gas-pressurized shock absorbers and coil springs.

Rear suspension Independent 5-arm multilink with geometry for antilift, antisquat and alignment control and stabilizer bar. Separate gas-pressurized shock absorbers and coil springs.

Steering Rack-and-pinion with speed-sensitive power assist and integral hydraulic damper. Steering wheel turns 3.3, lock-to-lock.

Tires Steel-belted all-season radials 215/55R16 93H.

Wheels Aluminum alloy 7.5Jx16, 10-spoke design (referring to the stock wheels).

Brakes 2-circuit hydraulic power-assisted 4-wheel disc, ventilated front/solid rear discs.

Antilock Braking System (ABS) ABS senses impending wheel lockup under heavy braking and pumps the brakes individually as needed up to 30 times per second to prevent lockup and maintain steering ability.

Brake Assist Upon sensing emergency braking via the speed at which the driver presses the brake pedal, standard Brake Assist immediately applies maximum available power boost, potentially reducing the overall stopping distance by eliminating the delay caused by a common human tendency not to brake hard enough, soon enough. Letting up on the brake pedal releases Brake Assist.

Performance

Acceleration 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds.
